Chlorosis:

Abnormal reduction or loss of the normal green colouration of leaves of plants, typically caused by disease or a lack of light.

Disability justice and activism are a big part of what drives me in both my personal projects and my career. Chlorosis is a place for me to document anything related to my health, public health, and COVID-19 safety.

Background (FoR)

I live with an extensive list of medical diagnoses, including multiple systemic illnesses, genetic/chromosomal disorders, and mental health conditions. These conditions not only shape my frame of reference, but are also an integral part of who I am. This blog acknowledges that health makes up a part of our identity and uses disability-first language in solidarity with disabled folks.

A note on frame of reference:
I simultaneously rely on modern medicine and acknlowledge its inherent biases and history of colonialism, anti-queerness, racism, and sexism.

On COVID-19

The pandemic is not over. Things have not gone back to normal for those of us living with chronic illness and disabilities. As the COVID-19 virus continues to ravage North America, the capitalistic powers that be and the liberal media have a vested interest in placating us. Long COVID is real. Many COVID cases are asymptomatic and still lead to widespread disability. COVID is still killing 500-1000 Americans per week.

The intention of my posts here are not to shame anyone, but to educate and provide a disabled person's POV on what eugenics through inaction looks like. I know that might sound extreme, but please consider reading the article Preservation Through Inaction: Eugenics and the COVID-19 Pandemic by Erica Fowler, MSc and Liam Ryan, MA.

If you're not currently taking any action to keep yourself, your loved ones, and your community safe, know that implementing any harm reduction pracrices is an appreciated act of solidarity.
